Over time, I started to let go of the shame and see myself as someone worthy of healing and growth.

Was yoga part of a larger journey, such as a lifestyle change or healing process?

Definitely. I discovered yoga while I was incarcerated. A volunteer yoga teacher came to the prison once a week, and at first, I only joined because it got me out of my cell. But over time, I realized yoga gave me something I hadn’t felt in years—peace. It was the start of my journey to forgive myself and rebuild my life.

How does yoga fit into your overall health and wellness routine?

Yoga is my anchor. I practice every morning to set the tone for my day, even if it’s just 10 minutes of stretching and deep breathing. It’s not just physical—it’s a mental reset. It reminds me that no matter what’s happening, I have the tools to stay grounded and calm.

How has your practice helped you grow emotionally or spiritually?

Yoga taught me how to sit with my emotions instead of running from them. In prison, I carried so much anger and guilt, but yoga gave me a safe space to feel those things without judgment. Over time, I started to let go of the shame and see myself as someone worthy of healing and growth.

How do you share your yoga knowledge or experiences with others?

I now teach yoga classes at a local community center, specifically for women who’ve been through trauma or are rebuilding their lives. Sharing yoga with others who’ve faced similar struggles is incredibly fulfilling. It’s my way of giving back and showing that no matter where you’ve been, you can find peace and start fresh.
